January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month. I have always said and will continue to say, human trafficking is a human issue. Thus, it should concern every human being, of every race, in every country, of every economic background and every other category a person identifies with. Although there are at risk groups; who are more likely to to be trafficked, ANYONE can be targeted by a trafficker. Anyone, in your country, in your community, even in your home.
Again, no one is exempt.
There continues to be this notion that human trafficking only happens to certain people, in certain countries.
It is a recurring theme at every single seminar, workshop and event I’ve hosted or attended that at least one person in the audience believes. It is not true. It is a myth.
The idea of what human trafficking looks like is another myth. The truth is, the person doing your hair, your nails, your child’s classmate, even your classmate (if you are a student), could be someone who is being trafficked.
Not everyone who is being trafficked is locked away….
Therefore, I encourage you to observe your surroundings, your interactions with others and be aware of other’s body language.
One of Princesses and Ladies Inc.’s initiatives; Project Prevention, is to educate individuals, like you, by conducting seminars and workshops about not only what human trafficking is but ways to recognize possible signs with the hopes of preventing it from happening to someone you know or come in contact with. These workshops and seminars are available to other organizations, businesses, schools, universities, large and small groups who requests them. In addition, in the month of August, generally, the organization hosts an event within Lake County to share this awareness widely within the community. We invite you to join us for this event in August and/or schedule a seminar or workshop for your group, school, university, organization or business.
